More about the AVE Madrid Girona
The AVE is a means of transport which is suitable for all types of travellers and budget. Traveling from Madrid, the capital of Spain, to Girona, a beautiful city in Catalonia not far from the French border, will only cost us a maximum of 4 hours and you will always find different prices, depending on timetables, class, etc. in which you want to travel.
Girona station is located in Plaça d'Espanya, s / n and its opening hours are from 05:45 to 23:30 from Monday to Saturday and from 06:00 to 23:30 on Sundays.
This station was already inaugurated in 1862 with the section Empalme (in Massanet) to Girona and it was a line that had to be united to Barcelona with the French border. Over the years it has undergone different changes, for example by the arrival of high speed. Today, the station is quite austere. On the ground floor to the tracks you can find the concourse with all the services. There you will find shops, cafes, tourist information points, etc. On the top floor you will find the tracks and the platforms. You can access them by escalators or lifts. There are 6 tracks and each one has its own marquee.
The railway services in the station are several: Cercanías, Media Distancia and Larga Distancia. For the trains coming from Madrid or Barcelona going to France, Girona needed to adapt its tracks into those for AVE and TGV gauges.
